One time when I was in college I took grandma and my mom and dad out to eat at a Chinese restaurant. It was the first time Grandma, an elderly farm wife of German heritage, had eaten in one. We got a bunch of different dishes and shared so everyone could try different things. When we were done Mom asked Grandma what she thought of the meal. Her response was, “It was all so good” and then in a whisper, “but the vegetables weren’t done.”
