Unfiltered Story #299109

I have a coworker I used to get on with until she attempted to get me fired to cover her own incompetence. Since then, I have distanced myself from her. Mainly, I try not to be alone with her so she cannot spin conversations we have and avoid doing parts of her job for her.

It doesn’t stop her from trying to antagonize me when no one is around so she can complain about how rude and disrespectful I am. It also doesn’t help that not keeping her in the loop on things that are none of her freaking business count as “rude and disrespectful.”

I am told to make an effort of being nice. A week ago, I realized she had lent out three computers to a group of interns but had only gotten two back. I let my boss know and contact the intern who agrees to drop it off a week later. I don’t say anything because I knew she would interfere and mess the entire exchange off. However, it is nice to let her know I am basically saving her butt, right? So I decide to make her aware that the itern is bringing in a computer she lent them and I tracked down.

Me: [Former Unpaid Intern] is bringing back the [Basic model] today. It is like the silver computer I have.

I say this because we have two types of computers – basic low-end which are silver and then black gaming computers.

Coworker: Tell her not to bring it in. You don’t need it!

Me: I was going to give it to [Contractor] so he stops using his personal computer for our software.

Coworker: *offended* Who told you to do that???

Me: [Boss] did.

Coworker: Well tell her to keep it. He can go another day without a computer. They need it for [project].

Again, this is a former unpaid intern working in a group of three other former unpaid interns. Her work is complete. They have the done everything they needed to do. They have actual paid jobs they are starting.

Me: It isn’t a gaming laptop. It is the silver [Basic Model]. They cannot run the simulation on it. You gave it to them last September until the gaming computer came in.

Coworker: They need to keep it for their project. They should have the gaming computer.

Me: This isn’t the gaming computer…

Coworker: They need the gaming computer for their project.

Me: This is the computer that [other former paid intern] used last summer. It isn’t the gaming computer.

Coworker: Well why didn’t you tell me that?

Me: …

We also had to go back and forth on me not handing out the gaming computer for that project. Apparently, she was looking for a fight because no amount of saying “I know. That is why I have no intentions of giving it out and am keeping it safely in the server room.” could convince her I was not trying to pawn off that computer on a new intern.
