Unfiltered Story #295461

, | Unfiltered | July 3, 2023

I had a patient, we’ll call her Suzy, that had dementia very badly and usually wasn’t capable of coherent sentences. What she was capable of was wheeling herself around in her wheelchair all day and night. She was sweet and funny though, and we all loved her.

One night, 2 am, I was sitting at the nurse’s station alone. The desk is just at the right height to where you can’t see someone in a wheelchair coming until they pass beside you. I thought everyone was asleep, but she had wandered over from the other unit and suddenly appeared.

Me: “Oh! Suzy, you scared me!”

She sighs and says perfectly clearly: “I know… I scare myself.”

I crack up and she just keeps on scooting.
