Unfiltered Story #292269

My first name, while not super common, is nowhere near unusual, though it has a lot of variations. For ease of reading, let’s say it’s Emmaline. Plenty of people call me Emmalina instead, which grates on my nerves, so I have a prepared spiel explaining this and inviting the person to call me Emma if they have trouble remembering which name to use. This is especially helpful for the people who have a niece or friend named Emmalina.

On the first day of my senior year, every teacher does roll call. In last period, my teacher—let’s call him Mr. Roman—calls me Emmalina, so after class I hang back and give him the name spiel.

Teacher: “Tell you what: if I ever call you Emmalina, you can call me Mr. Ramin.”

He never got my name wrong once.
