(She turns her head as she finishes her sentence, and because it’s outside and the wind is blowing, I can’t hear anything else.)
Me (leaning forward slightly with my hand behind my ear): What?
Receptionist (facing me): “What” is so rude. Fill out the top half except your social security number.
Me (slightly confused): Okay.
(I go back to the car.)
Me: The lady at the desk just scolded me for saying “What”.
Boyfriend (confused): What?!
Me: Yeah, exactly.
