Unfiltered Story #284512

, , , | Unfiltered | February 21, 2023

I grew up in a religious group that many Christians consider a cult or sect. Another kid who loved down the street from me was not a member of this community but had some friends who were.

One day I was on the bus and there were only two open seats, next to this kid and next to me. Another kid got on the bus and looked at the two of us and sat down next to me. He turned to me and said “Thank God this seat was open because I wouldn’t want to sit next to a [common name for my group]. I looked at him and said “well, you’re sitting next to one now”. There was dead silence and the kid finally said “maybe they’re not all bad,” but he moved to another seat and never spoke to me again.

Even as a kid in high school, I found his reaction and discomfort amusing. As for the kid he wouldn’t sit next to? He never did convert, so he would have been safe.
