Unfiltered Story #281878
My boss is a very friendly, supportive guy, but he has his grumpy moments. He also likes to joke with people. A good number of us have worked together for three years, since this store got up and running, and we know each other pretty well. We’re at a morning meeting before the store opens and the boss makes a joke about our bookkeeper being mean to him.
Boss: “You should hear the things [Bookkeeper] says to me in the office. She’s mean and always makes me cry.”
(She doesn’t. He doesn’t cry at work much, if ever. Maybe once or twice when he’s gotten bad news.)
Me: “I’d like to say ‘Look who’s talking.’…”
Boss: “I don’t know what you’re talking about, [My Name].”
Literally the week before this conversation, he had made me cry. It wasn’t over anything terrible, just a few minor things in an evaluation conversation. I’m a big crier, though, so even when he doesn’t intend to make me cry, it seems to happen anyway.
