Unfiltered Story #281787
I have 3 siblings. I’m the blunt, overly honest one in the family.
During the year between my little sister’s engagement and her wedding, our mother suddenly dies. She goes through with the wedding because, of course, we all know it’s what Mom would have wanted, but the night is bittersweet. One of us 3 girls will burst into tears, the other 2 will comfort and hug her and tell her Mom would have wanted us to be happy tonight, only for the roles to reverse 10 minutes later.
At this time, my sister who’s the bride is the one crying, and I’m the one holding her. Our brother (one of those who believes it’s a crime for men to cry in front of anybody) comes over and asks what’s wrong. Without planning it, we answer at the exact same instant. My sister says, “Nothing.” I say, “Missing Mom.”
The stark contrast of our responses causes my sister to burst out laughing, so I guess it was the right thing to say. You know what, Mom would have found it so cute, she would have told everyone about it for years.
