Several years ago, my family and I were on a plane heading home to Seattle. The flight included dinner: a vegetarian option, a chicken dish, or lasagna.

Our flight attendants were very comedic the whole time (for example, the landing was bumpy and one hopped on the intercom to announce, “Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve just HIT Seattle.”) The chicken dish was described as “a favorite of Sammy Davis Jr and Ella Fitzgerald, our famous Sam-n-Ella Chicken.” My dad, brother, and I had the chicken, and my mom had the lasagna. Mom joked a bit to us that we’d be sorry for ordering “salmonella” chicken.

Unfortunately, when we got back to our house, Mom had to rush to the bathroom. She was sick with food poisoning…
