Unfiltered Story #281184

Back when I was in graduate school, it was a pretty diverse bunch. At one point between the two graduate student offices we had 15 countries represented (pot lucks were awesome). I usually worked in one office, but was having trouble with a particular computer. A Turkish friend in another office offered to let me use his after he went home. I was quite grateful.

After he left, I sat down at his computer and started to work. I was the only one there and enjoying the quiet. All of a sudden his computer started wailing loudly at me out of nowhere and I screamed and jumped about 5 feet in the air.

After my heart rate got back to normal I realized that he had set an alarm to call out in Arabic when it was time for Muslim prayers. Prayers were definitely said, but they were more along the lines of “Dear God what was that!?!?”

When I mentioned it the next day he pretty much rolled on the floor laughing at the thought. Diversity can definitely be amusing.
