Unfiltered Story #281098

I get a call from an unknown number on my cell phone.
Me: “Hello?”
Caller: “Hello, I’m calling from [charity] to ask if you’re able to make a financial contribution to our group today.”
(I know the charity she claims to be calling from is real, but I’m not sure about whether they make cold calls like this. I’m leaning toward it being a scam and I know there are many other ways to donate anyway, so I decide to blow her off)
Me: “I’m sorry, I’m a student so I dont have a lot of disposable income at the mo–”
Caller: (cutting me off) “is the man or lady of the house available?”
(I’m taken aback by this question and how outdated it is for 2018. She called my cell phone–which is the most likely result if you’re calling random numbers in this day and age–and I’m 22 years old living in an apartment. I pause for a moment, trying to think of how to respond.)
Caller: (impatiently) “Is the man or lady of the house available?”
Me: “I… no, I’m a university student. You called my cell phone.”
Caller: *hangs up*
(At least she was easy to get rid of.)
