I’m at a craft store, looking at zippers to try to find the best match for the fabric I’ll be using to sew a purse. I narrow it down to two, but just can’t decide which is better. Another shopper is browsing in the same aisle, so on a whim, I speak up.

Me: Excuse me, I know you don’t work here but if you have a moment, would you mind helping me pick between these two zippers for my project?

(I know it seems strange to ask, but I’ve been asked similar questions a lot in craft stores)

Other Shopper: Yes, I’d be happy to. I love passing judgement! What’s the project?

I explained my project and showed her the fabric and zippers, and she picked out the one she thought was better. The purse turned out great.
