It’s 1991 and I’m a high school sophomore.

Teacher: Now, they know that bleach can kill the HIV virus…

Girl: Then why don’t they have people with AIDS sit in a pool of bleach?

Teacher: Um, the virus is on the inside.

Girl: Then why don’t they inject them with bleach?

Teacher: Because that would kill them.

Girl: What about a little bleach?

Teacher: That would kill them.

She wasn’t dumb, just a little naive. I was reminded of this when the President of the United States suggested doing the same thing.
