(We are visiting a theme park with a historical theme. Part of the entertainment is a mock gladiator fight at the end of the day. I’ve been a few times, but this one takes the cake. At the start, after some introduction, this happens:)

Speaker: So, if a gladiator is heavily wounded, a “coup de grace” can be administered. To show how this goes, we need a big, strong, brave volunteer.

(Dad had no choice as to go and lay down on the sands of the mini colosseum and be part of the demonstration. Luckily, the masked man carrying his hammer was – as usual – not good at his job and he dropped the hammer instead of swinging it.)
