Unfiltered Story #27984

(It’s 11:30 at night on MLK day. My husband and I are in bed when I hear very loud music. I am annoyed as my husband needs to get up early tomorrow and has problems falling back asleep after he wakes up. I figure someone is driving by with a loud radio but it continues. I think that someone is probably dropping off a friend or two, and it’s taking time for them to say goodbye, ect. The song comes to an end and another one starts, just as loud. Now I’m seriously worried about my husband and debate calling in a noise complaint with the police, but I don’t want to get anyone in trouble or make it a big deal so instead I decide to ask for the music to be turned down. I throw on some clothes and go downstairs and on to the balcony. The car is parked right underneath our window/balcony. I see two people, man and woman, standing a little ways from the car.)

Me: Excuse me, do you know who owns this car?

(No response. I repeat the question with no answer. I then address the car in case the owner is inside.)

Me: Hello. Excuse me. Can you turn down the music please? It’s 11:30. Hello. I’m trying to sleep. Excuse me.

(The man starts walking over to the car.)

Man: Hey, shut up. You don’t know me, but now I know where you live. You don’t know me, you can’t judge me. You come down here and I’ll (unintelligible).

(He slams a fist into his hand.)

Me: I’m sorry.

Man: You don’t know me. Don’t you judge me. I was just helping this woman. That’s why I pulled over. And now I know where you live.

Me: Why are you yelling at me? I didn’t curse you or call you names. I just want to sleep.

(Man turns off music.)

Man: Why didn’t you just say, “man can you turn that off” and I would have.

Me: I thought I did.

Man (aggressively): Music quiet enough now?

Me: Yes. Thank you.

(I go back inside and stay awake the rest of the night phone in hand in case he does come back now that he knows where I live. Lesson learned, if someone is annoying you, never ask them to stop. Call the police first or else people will threaten you and know where you live. Also, what did he think I was judging him for?)
