Unfiltered Story #27926

(I’m next in line to pay at a stationery store. I’m a woman.)

Customer (older woman): Do you know the way to [Bingo Hall]?

Cashier: Sorry, I don’t.

Me: It was just across the street from here, but it closed a few years ago. I know there’s a large bingo hall in [nearby industrial area].

Customer: Do you know what bus goes there?

Me: Sorry, no clue. *thinks briefly* I don’t usually do this kind of thing, and it’s totally okay if you say no, but would you like a ride there? It’s on my way.

(Long story short, she accepted, and I gave her a lift. During the drive, he told me that she had recently left her physically abusive husband, and that this was her first time going out to have some fun on her own. So glad I took a chance–I’ve never given a stranger a ride before or since! And I made sure there was a bus stop in the area before I dropped her off.)
