(My three-year-old is about to start her second part-year of preschool. Several of her classmates are moving on to primary school, so to try and avoid upsets I’ve been trying to explain to her that there will be certain changes when they open again. Note: The school has had a new-ish soft seating area for story times since before she started going there…)

Me: “.. And there’ll be some new boys and girls when you go back, because some of your friends are going to go to big school now.”

Daughter: *excited* “And when I go back to school, there’ll be COUCHES!!!”
