Unfiltered Story #262278

I visited the academic advising service at my university for a degree check to see if I had everything I needed to graduate. This occurs as I am telling the advisor what course I want add to my degree.

Me: “The course code is [course code].”

Advisor: “Hmm, I can’t find that…who is it by?”

Me: *confused* “What do you mean?”

Advisor: “Who is the course run by? Who runs the course?”

Me: “The professor’s name isn’t written, so sorry, I don’t know.”

The advisor turned to his computer, clicking away. After a few seconds, he snorted.

Advisor: *patronisingly* It’s a linguistics course…by the language department.”

Me: *speechless*

I didn’t know he was asking for the department, when based on his wording it sounded like he was asking for the professor! He continued to be very infantalizing throughout the appointment, and I’m just glad I never have to see him again.
