(I’m in eighth grade and come down with a bad fever. My family was planning to go skiing for the weekend at a place several hours’ drive away, but didn’t feel comfortable taking me along or leaving me home alone, so we made plans for me to stay at my grandparents’ house. I was to be dropped off the night before my family left along with everything I’d need, including two different bottles of over-the-counter medicine. My dad wanted to make sure I had everything.)

Dad: Got your clothes?

Me: Yep.

Dad: Got your laptop?

Me: Yeah.

Dad: Got your drugs?

Me: . . . Yes.
