Unfiltered Story #259805

, , , | Unfiltered | June 7, 2022

[This story happened a few years ago. I and a handful of friends are going around Cadmen Market to shoot the breeze before dinner. As we wander around the many stalls and shops, I notice the reproduction of a XVIth Century dress. Note that we are Italians, this is relevant for later.]
Me: “Oh hey, a Baroque dress! I wonder if they sell things like that one in there…”
Friend#1: “Want to take a look?”
Me: “Sure!”
Friend#2: “Eh, why not, I’m coming with you.”
Friend#3: “Me too!”
[We set off to get to the shop, but as soon as I put a foot inside, a woman comes barreling towards me.]
Shopkeeper: “NO, NO, WE’RE CLOSED, GO AWAY GO AWAY!”
Me: *taken aback* “W-what? I Just wanted to take a look inside.”
Friend#3: “Yeah, calm down lady, we just saw that dress outside, I thought you sold them and stuff.”
Shopkeeper: “NO, STILL NO PHOTOS!”
Me: “What photos? I didn’t ask for photos or took out my camera…”
Friend#2 and #3: “Uhuh?”
Friend#1: *a bit aggressively* “Okay, okay, we won’t take photos, would you please stop screaming like a plucked eagle now?”
Shopkeeper: *suddenly calm* “Oh, so you aren’t what you looked like. Go ahead and take a look around then, but I’m closing in fifteen.”
[It turned out, from inquiry by my friends, that the lady had heard us speak Italian from outside, and, since more than a few Italian-speaking groups had made a mess of the Place and demanded discounts for the costumed photoshoots she offered in the past months, she thought we were going to cause the same exact kind of trouble. She was very polite and tried to offer us a discount for a photoshoot there, but we all agreed to avoid that Place like the plague.]
