Unfiltered Story #258587

*I’m quite prudish. I’m not one for dresses or skirts, and I don’t really like showing too much skin. That’s my choice and I’m perfectly fine with it. Some people, I guess, aren’t. Aside from my parents begrudgingly having to accept their daughter not being as outgoing in style as most others, I’ve had friends who were a bit rude about it, too. One situation goes like this: I’m in a clothing store with a few friends.*

Me: *Looking around at whatever outfits are on the mannequins.* Oh this looks nice.

Friend 1: Yea? Why don’t you get it? It’ll look cute on you!

Me: Oh no, it’s not my style. I think it’d be much nicer on one of you!

Friend 2: Oh no! Come on [My Name]! Try it on.

Me: I’m not comfortable wearing something like that. It’s fine! I’ll look somewhere else for something new. No issue!

*Friend 1 and 2 exchange glances*

Me: What?

Friend 1: Well… you’re always like this. You never wear dresses, you never show off a bit. It’s… getting kind of…

Friend 2: Annoying.

Me: *Taken aback* Annoying?

Friend 1: *Nods* We were hoping you’d find something else today… but I guess not.

Friend 2: Honestly feels like a waste of time being here.

Me: I’ve never liked wearing dresses… you know that. I’m uncomfortable wearing them…

Friend 1: Maybe we should take you home. It’s not fun being around a killjoy, you know.

Friend 2: We’ll bring you along on our day outs once you stop being a f***ing prude. It’s not difficult to wear a dress. Get over it.

*I’m a little shocked by Friend 2’s sudden change in tone. I didn’t say anything until we got to the car, where I told them I’m sorry that my preferred style isn’t like theirs. They just told me to grow up before dropping me off back home. I haven’t spoken to them since, but some of our friends in the same circle told me that they were talking down about me and the incident. Thankfully my other friends didn’t pay much mind to them. I don’t mind you wearing what makes you comfortable and happy! Go for it! But please respect what others want to wear. It’s not difficult.*
