Unfiltered Story #253680
The store had an intercom system that was primarily used to page managers and employees. I was working at the information desk and needed to go on break, so I checked the schedule and saw that Coworker was supposed to cover me. I paged Coworker, using our standard format. Note that {Coworker} has a fairly common first name.
Me: {Coworker’s name} to Info please; {Coworker’s name} to Info.
While I’m waiting for Coworker to appear, a customer came up to the information desk.
Me: Hello, ma’am, how can I help you?
Customer {annoyed}: Is this “Info”?
Me: This is the information desk, yes, ma’am.
Customer {annoyed}: Well, you paged me!
Me {not remembering any customer pages}: I’m sorry? Someone paged you?
Customer: Well, yes! I’m {Coworker’s name}!
Me: …that was a page for an employee named {Coworker’s name}, ma’am. I’m sorry for the confusion.
Customer {now embarrassed and even more annoyed}: Well, you should be more clear about that!
