Unfiltered Story #251797

, | Unfiltered | January 17, 2022

I was hit by the flu and when I return to work, my husband gets hit by that same flu. It was the first time since I’ve met him he was sick this bad. Because I just recovered, I knew what was happening to him and I could explain things to him, which helped him process what was going on. He wasn’t delirious, but hazy and incoherent, like most sick people. The night was rough; with him getting nightmares to boot. We both sleep little. The next morning, I return to work.

Co-worker: Hey, how are you?

Me: Oh, I’m okay.

Co-worker: Ah, and the flu? Because… you know… I didn’t want to say it, but you look like crap.

Me: (Gee, thanks) I slept very little. My husband now has the flu.

Co-worker: Oh dear! No wonder you slept bad. He was probably complaining and overreacting; you know men! They can’t handle a real flu! Hahaha!

Me: My husband was sick. He did NOT overreact.

There was probably something in my tone of voice that caused her to scurry off. I was worried sick about my husband while still recovering myself and I did not need her ‘stupid manflu jokes’.
