Unfiltered Story #247162
(I work reception/accounts payable at a small office in Sydney’s west. We get strange calls every now and then, but this one takes the cake.)
Me: “Good afternoon, [company], this is [name].”
Caller: *says standard greeting and goes into a spiel about how we could save money on electricity and gas*
Caller: “And can I ask how much are you paying per quarter at the moment?”
Me: “Oh, I don’t actually deal with those invoices so I don’t know.” *laughs*
(His tone changes and he suddenly sounds almost accusatory or offended.)
Caller: “… Why are you laughing?”
Me: *bewildered, unsure how to respond* “Oh, it’s kind of funny to me.”
Caller: “But why are you laughing?”
Me: *more confused than amused at this point* “What’s wrong with laughing?”
*dial tone*
Yep, he immediately hung up after I asked what was wrong with laughing.
Listen, buddy, if I’m making a social faux pax by laughing awkwardly, then you have to tell me! I can’t improve my behavior if you don’t tell me what I’m doing wrong!!
