(My dad and I are at the counter in a chain hardware store when I overhear an exchange at another register.)

Customer: I want to return this paint *points to paint tub at her feet*. I just put it in another tub.

Cashier: Yeah, no we can’t do that.

Customer: But I want to return it!

Cashier: We don’t sell that brand of paint, so you can’t return it if it’s been put into a tub that we don’t sell.

Customer: But I only changed the tub! All the paint is there! Let me return it!

Cashier: No!

Customer: *becoming increasingly irate* But I haven’t used the paint!

(At this point the conversation dies down when the cashier says that there isn’t anything she can do about it, and walks away to help another customer.)

Customer: *walking away and yelling out to other employees near by* This is bad service! Really bad service! *leaves her paint behind and storms out*
