Unfiltered Story #240657

Part of my job as a volunteer involves assisting families who have suffered a house fire. Two days before Christmas a few years ago I interviewed one such family (mom, four kids under 14 – dad worked out of state).

Their house was unlivable, they couldn’t even get back inside to see if they could salvage anything, and they had to temporarily move in with an aunt. Coincidentally, Aunt was the only English-speaking relative and the only local support they had as they were fairly new to the US.

Almost on the heels of that family I had a firefighter show up. He was from the station that had responded – and he asked for the clients’ sizes, names, and ages, and where he could contact them, as the fire department had passed the hat and were going to make sure that family still got some kind of Christmas.
