R~ is sitting in the dentist’s office while the technician adjusts his full plate (dentures). R~ has been told he cannot chew gum due to his plate. He and the technician are discussing how to stop smoking. The technician has his plate in her hands when she says “You should try the [nicotine] gum!”

R~: [stares at her incredulously for a moment] “You say that while holding my teeth????”

Technician: [looks down at her hands] “Yeah, I didn’t really think that through, did I?”
