Unfiltered Story #235242

We rent houses to people. One of our clients passed away and the heirs declined the inheritage because of the many bills. By law, everything inside that home and garden is now our property and per procedure, we get companies to pick it up and either sell it or destroy it. They come by and do a clean sweep of everything of the property. The next day, we get an e-mail:

Neighbour: You cleaned out the house of our neighbour, as well as the garden. However, because we are remodelling, we put our lounge set into their garden. Now that [very expensive] set is gone! We want our lounge set back!

Me: I’m sorry to hear that. How did you get it into that garden?

Neighbour: There is no fence between us; we were very good neighbours. *Gives the description of the set*

I pass on the message to the inspector who ordered the companies to clear out the house and garden.

Inspector: I’ll see what I can do… but I think those people can buy themselves a new lounge set. I’ll let them know.

I am very glad I don’t have to be the one to tell them that! Tip of the week: don’t put your stuff into your neighbour’s garden, dead or alive.
