I work at a membership pool and they recently had their first open house to try and get new members and spread the word about us. The whole day we had a line of customers coming in. Due to it being a pool we require everyone going near it to sign a waiver requiring some information about you including an emergency contact. This incident happens about half way through the open house:

*Customers steadily trickle in while me and my coworker are quickly handing out waivers and pens*

Customer 1: Excuse me but why do I need to put down my emergency contact and do all of this to participate in the open house?

Me: It is our policy, we require everyone who enters to fill out this form t-

Customer 1: *Cutting me off and getting angry* I’m not going to fill it out. This is an invasion of my privacy and I will not do this *Stops filling out the form*

Me: *Worriedly looking over at my other coworker who hasn’t heard what is going on yet* Ma’am I am sorry you feel that way but in order for you to participate you need to fill it out. I can’t d-

Customer 1: No you can do something!! What you are going to do is let me go on and participate and I am not going to fill out the waiver as this is just ridiculous!!! *Looks over to Customer 2* Don’t you think it is too?!?! It is an invasion of privacy and I am NOT standing by!!! Are you????

Customer 2: *Glances at her like shes a crazy woman, shakes her head and goes back to filling out the waiver*

*By now my other coworker has noticed and is coming over to check what’s wrong*

Coworker: Is everything okay??

Customer 1: NO IT IS NOT!!! THIS IS AN INVASION OF MY PRIVACY AND I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT!!!

Coworker: *Says the same thing as me*

Customer 1: WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME FILL IT OUT??? WHEN I GO GROCERY SHOPPING AT <Store> I DON’T HAVE TO FILL OUT AND GIVE ALL OF THIS INFORMATION!!!!

Coworker: *Getting irritated but controls herself* Well there you do not have a risk of drowning. Now I can give you two options, you can fill out this waiver or I can give you the phone numbers of <Higher Up Bosses> and you can take it up with them when you leave after I give them to you.

Customer 1: *Continues to argue back but eventually gives up and storms off*

Coworker 1: *Takes a deep breath then turns to me* Its okay you did nothing wrong.

Me: *Lets out a sigh of relief that it is all over* Yeah I know, I’m just glad that is over with.

Luckily for us we never saw that woman after that and the open house was very successful.
