Unfiltered Story #231151
I’m the customer in this story.
I wanted to order an item from a certain big box retailer that was only available from their online store. You could choose whether to have it delivered to your home or to a brick-and-mortar location where you could then pick it up. I was having some trouble with the website, so I decided to go to the nearby store and see if they could help me.
As soon as I got there, a greeter welcomed me in a very friendly and professional manner, with a pleasant smile.
Me: Oh good, you can probably answer my question!
Greeter: I’ll do my best!
Me : I know that you can pick up web orders here, but can I also place one here, instead of doing it online?
Her expression immediately changed to one of anxiety.
Greeter: Yes, but you won’t be able to pick it up today.
Me (taken aback): Well, obviously. Wait. Do people actually think they can…?
Greeter: (slow nod)
Me: Wow. Okay, yeah, I shouldn’t be surprised.
