Unfiltered Story #231084

(I work in a relatively well-known craft store. It’s maybe an hour and a half to closing, and I am helping a woman look for patterns in the fabric department when the bell on the desk rings. I go to help this costumer. I cut from several bolts of fabric, write them all up, and give her the fabric and the slip. A few minutes later I am called up to my register to help ring out customers. The customer for whom I cut fabric is in my coworker’s line and my coworker flags me down before I can sign in to my register.)

Coworker: “She lost her fabric slip.”

Customer: “Do you keep a copy?”

Me: “Uh, no. I’d have to re-write them all…”

(I really don’t want to have to do that, as she’s got close to ten cuts of fabric and it would require me to go all the way back to fabric to re-measure them all and find the bolts they came off of to re-write them all, and my coworker has a line of people behind this woman. Calling up another cashier would take more time.)

Customer: I’m in a hurry, I don’t really have time for this.

(I proceed to call the next customer around to my register, as there are only a few cashiers and several customers. I hear nothing more from the woman with the missing fabric slip until she leaves.)

Customer: *rudely* You need better customer service.

(Note that one of my coworkers found her slip and brought it to the registers! I spoke to my coworker about the customer afterward and she informed me the woman was “sassy” all through her transaction, insisting we should have pinned the slip, etc. I have never been to a fabric store that pins your slip to your fabric, nor one with carbon copy slips to keep a copy. Occasionally we’ll put small cuts of lace, etc, into bags, but with larger cuts that doesn’t work. Most customers hold onto their slip or tuck it into their folded fabric.)

Question of the Week

Have you ever served a bad customer who got what they deserved?

I have a story to share!
