This happened a few years so…

A customer walks up to the counter, visibly upset, with a table lamp in his hands. He puts it on the counter.

Me: Hi. How can I help you?
Him: I want to return this lamp. It doesn’t work.
Me: O.K. Sorry to hear that. Let me just test it and then I can refund your money.
Him: (in an annoyed time of voice) Why? I told you it doesn’t work.
Me: I know but it is company policy.

He impatiently looks on as I plug in the lamp and turn it on. It works just fine

Me: Sir, it seems to be working.
Him: Well, I didn’t know you had to turn it on.

He takes the lamp, turns around and walks away in a huff.
