(I work in a fairly popular pet store. Our store just so happens to have a dog boarding facility within it. I work front desk so I handle reservations as well as complaints and phone calls. It is nearing Fourth of July and we have been fully booked for about two weeks now since we are a very popular boarding facility. I have been getting at least 5 to 10 calls a day from people looking for last minute boarding reservations. We try to be as accommodating as possible and regularly go through the reserved rooms daily to move dogs around that don’t necessarily need large rooms if they are very small so we can make room for larger dogs with later reservations. At this point it is three days prior to Fourth of July and we have absolutely no rooms available and our wait list is 10 people long. I get this call late in the evening about an hour before closing so I am busily trying to prepare the front desk for the morning staff and my coworkers and getting the dogs situated for the night.)
Me: Thank you for calling [Pet Store Boarding Facility]! My name is [My Name] how can I help you this fine evening?
Customer: *clearly already agitated* Yeah I need to make a reservation for my dog
Me: Sure thing! Is this for boarding or just for the day?
Customer: Well for boarding obviously
Me: Okay when were you looking to board?
Customer: I need to drop my dog off tomorrow morning and I will pick him up Tuesday morning.
Me: *cringing because I can feel the storm brewing* I am so sorry sir but due to it being Fourth of July this weekend we do not in fact have any rooms available. I can put you on the wait list but it already has 10 people on it and I highly doubt anything will open up this weekend.
Customer: *very angry now* Now look here my dog has stayed there before I need to go out of town this weekend and I need him to stay there!
Me: Sir I understand but we do not have any rooms available what so ever. In fact we have been fully booked for 2 weeks no-
Customer: I DON’T CARE YOU NEED TO MAKE ROOM FOR ME NOW.
Me: Sir that is not possible I am sor-
Customer: LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED THEY MADE ROOM FOR ME I NEED TO LEAVE MY DOG THERE THIS WEEKEND I HAVE NO WHERE ELSE TO TAKE HIM
Me: Sir even if I could make room I would have to give that room to the first person on our wait list since they called before you. I am sorry but you can try [Vet Down The Road] or [Alternate Boarding Place] but we will be unable to accommodate your request.
Customer: I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS *hangs up*
Me: *screams internally*
