I work at a craft store that has several large bins of bright multicolored balls in the drive aisles. People often grab them and start bouncing them. One evening as I am taking a customer to an item she wants I walk by a boy of about 10 bouncing one of the balls. As I go by I say to him, very politely, “please be careful so you don’t hit any of the merchandise.” I show the person the merchandise then go back to where I was and start straightening items. A minute later a woman comes up to me. ” You need to talk to the parent, not to my son! You have no right to talk to the child! And there are others bouncing balls, you didn’t say anything to them!” I simply said ” ok” and walked away.
