(Ours is a catalogue based chain, the customer writes the assigned code into a piece of paper and hands or to the cashier for payment, after which another colleague picks the order. This happens just about every day though…)
Customer: *sets a shoe from the display on the counter* I’d like to try this in a [size] before​ I buy them.
Me: Sir, every shoe size has a unique code, please go to where you found it, read the label and tell me the correlating code so I can find them?
Customer: Oh…
(Most customers comply, others need to be told that we literally hold thousands of lines in the back and the code will help us find them. Customers do the same with clothes too.
