I delivered pizza in a college town for more years that I’d like to admit to, and this is my all-time favorite excuse for why a customer wasn’t home when I showed up.

They were out setting mice free. Seriously. Some friends of the customers hanging around, and they explained to me that they’d gotten pet mice, and due to biology the mice had multiplied, and they couldn’t keep that many mice, but they didn’t want to sell them to a pet store, so they were taking them out to a field somewhere to set them free. (How they thought pet mice would survive in the wild is beyond me. I didn’t ask.)

All I could think was, they had all the time in the world to do this, but they picked AFTER ORDERING PIZZA to do it.
