[My workplace has recently partnered with a well-known charity for a month, and we’re supposed to ask for donations as part of the purchase transaction. I finish ringing one woman’s items, and ask if she’d like to donate when this occurred.]

Customer: Oh, sure, donate a dollar!

Me: Thank you!

Customer’s son: What’s [charity] do?

Customer: Oh, they help to build homes for people.

Customer’s son: Well, you could’ve donated more than a dollar.

[I had to bite my lip and turn away to keep myself from laughing until after they left. We don’t mind smaller donations, as they obviously build up together, but that was just too funny.]
