(I’m a clerk for a mail order service. This happens every time:)
Customer: “This place’s fees are Bullsh**! It’s all your fault and I will make you pay! You’re the one who should be ashamed!”
(After telling the customer that I don’t make the rules, I bring out the person who does: the manager.)
Customer: *sweetly* “Oh hello…I was just upset about this fee here, and why is that?”
(INSTANT CALM. Note: the manager isn’t particularly heavy set or tall, but once the customer realizes that he or she is speaking with the one who makes the rules, he or she becomes sweet. Why is that.)
