Unfiltered Story #200702

, , | Unfiltered | July 15, 2020

I work at a grocery store as a bagger. On the first day of 2016 my manager was forcing me to work outside my availability for no reason and I felt like I wasn’t even allowed to have a personal life, only work, work and more work. Well, I was bagging and a customer came through and asked me how I was. I decided not to lie, and I said, “Barely surviving.”
The customer took that as an invitation to laugh loudly and make jokes about me to everyone in line. “2016’s just started and she said she’s barely surviving, oh man!” Among other horrible nasty things.
And my manager laughed right along.
I really regret not walking away, even if it would have gotten me in trouble. I made a new year’s resolution to stand up for myself more.
