An older woman approaches our gelato case and orders a small gelato and a pint of sorbet. I begin scooping.

Woman: Now does this stuff need to be kept in the freezer?

Me: …yes ma’am, it’s ice cream.

Woman: Oh, well forget the pint then. The stuff that needs to be frozen gets so hard I can’t get it out of the container. I only get the stuff that I can keep in the fridge.

Me: You keep it in the fridge?

Woman: Yes.

Me: And it doesn’t turn to soup on you?

Woman: No.

Me: Okay. Have a nice day.
