Unfiltered Story #194997
(Note: I work at a popular fast food place, I’m the only cashier around 6am and I have psoriasis so I usually wear long sleeves under my shirt. Today, I am not.)
As I’m stockin up my cups and such, an older couple comes up to the register.
Me: Good morning! What can I get for you today?
Customer’s Wife: What’s that on your arms?
Me: *fidgets, trying to hide my arms with short sleeves* Um, it’s psoriasis, ma’am.
Customer’s Wife: No it’s not. Psoriasis doesn’t look like that. It looks like this. *proceeds to pull up her own sleeves to show me perfectly clear skin*
I was so offended and ashamed, I turned my back to her. I’ve never before turned my back to a customer deliberately. When she sat down, the following happened.
Customer: Sorry about her. She’s been drinking this morning.
Me, thinking to myself: Who the f*** drinks at 6am?! *out loud to the customer* Oh that’s all right. Why can I get you?
This was by far the most upsetting experience I’ve ever had. I haven’t seen them since, but even now, I’m upset as I write this. It was a painful experience for me.
