Unfiltered Story #193929
(I am cashiering in a store. If people haven’t signed their credit cards or even sometimes when they have, I always ask for ID. A man and woman who are probably in their 60s approach to buy a tee shirt.)
Me, seeing credit card: May I see your ID, please?
Man: But…what?
Me: Just to check it with the name on the card?
Man, completely seriously: But I’m not under 21.
Me:…that’s not why. It’s just to protect your identity.
Woman: You don’t need to check it. He’s over 21.
The man hands it over anyway. They both look completely bewildered and we finish the sale. I don’t think they ever understood that I wasn’t trying to make sure he was of age to buy a shirt.
