When laid off from jobs in my normal career, I took a job doing tech support at DirecTV. Pretty normal stuff until a guy called in and wanted me to change the order of channels we broadcast. I thought maybe he wanted help setting up a favorites list, but no. He wanted the channels ordered in such a way to suit him and wouldn’t take no for an answer. So while pounding on the keyboard, I said, “Okay, sir. We’re not supposed to do this, but I’m going to anyway. We can tell which channels you watch the most, and I’m going to reorder everything with those at the front. This will take 24 hours for the system to fully update. If it doesn’t work, or you have another issue, please feel free to call back.
