Unfiltered Story #192227
(I am a cashier at a retail store with its own credit card. We sometimes mail out coupons to our cardholders, and they’re required to use their credit card for at least part of the purchase in order to get their discount.)
Me: “After your discount, your total is [total].”
Customer: “Okay.” *finds a gift card while looking for her credit card* “Can you tell me how much is on this?”
Me: “There is [amount] on here. It’s more than your total, but in order to use your discount you have to put something on your credit card. *her friend shows up at this time* You can either put a little bit on your credit card and use the gift card for the rest, or you can put the whole total on your credit card and pay your card off with the gift card.”
Friend: *to me* “Umm, I don’t think you can do that…”
Me: *forced smile* “Yes, you can.”
(The customer paid her credit card off with her gift card. I wanted to tell her friend that since she knows how everything works around here that she might as well just take over my job while I go home for the day.)
