Man walks over to my counter in the sporting goods department. He asks me, a woman, if there was a man here to help him with the knives. I told the customer ” I am the only associate here tonight. How can I help you?” The customer gets upset. “What do you know about knives? I need a man to help me with these, you know nothing about knives.” I told him again ” I am the only one here sir so unless you come back tomorrow and work with my department manager Susan you are stuck with me.” He gives up and tells me which knives he wants to see. I pulled the first one out. Show him how the knife functions and warn him about the assist on the knife. He laughs and says, ” You have no idea how to handle a knife little girl.” At this point I see my upper manger who walks by with a concerned look and I wave him off smiling. He knods and continues his walk. The customer asks to see the knife and I hand it to him closed. Automatically the customer puts his finger on the back to open the knife but has his other hand in the way and as the knife opens the man cuts himself. “Damn it. Stupid f****** knife!” He yells. ” Don’t you have a bandaid or something around here?!?” My manager comes back around just as I inform the customer the following, “I am so sorry sir. I handle these knives everyday and yet in 7 years, never have I cut myself. We have no need to keep bandaids here.” The customer glares and walks off with his tiny cut. My manager walks over. ” Nice”, was all that was said
