Unfiltered Story #188434

(I work at a popular supermarket chain as a bagger. One of our responsibilities is collecting carts people have left in the parking lot. As I’m doing this, a customer walks up to me.)

Customer: “Hey, do you want to earn some extra money?”

Me: “Um, sir?”

Customer: “Run inside and get me a few cases of water bottles. The big ones. If you do, I’ll give you some cash.”

Me: “I don’t know if–”

Customer: “Sure you can. I come here all the time. Do you know [name]?”

Me: “No…”

Customer: “Well, she works here, and she always helps me out with this.”

(I’m about to say “Actually, for the next fifteen minutes I am supposed to be collecting carts, but if you ask someone inside they can help you”; I only get as far as “Actually, for the next fifteen minutes I am–” before he interrupts me.)

Customer: “Whatever, fine, then.” (Walks into the store.)

(Twenty minutes later, I’m back in the store bagging. The same customer walks past me and, very loudly, yells, “I thought you were supposed to be on break!” I embarrassingly turn to my co-worker who heard.)

Me: “That’s…not what I told him…”

Co-worker: “Don’t worry about it.”
