(I am a nurse in a skilled care facility. I have just been called to a patients room when this conversation happens.)
Me: “Whatcha need, [patient]?”
Patient: *coughing* Can I please get a… Cucumber?”
Me: “I’m sorry, hun, what was that?”
Patient: *laughs hysterically*
Me: ???
Patient: “I meant to say cough drop, but the look on your face was priceless!”
(We now refer to cough drops as cucumbers.)
