Unfiltered Story #178394

The busiest time of the day was here and the lines were starting to get backed up, so we had to start picking up the pace. An elderly woman came through the line.

Me: “Hi! How are you?”

Customer: “Good. Could I have paper bags?”

Me: “Sure!”

Me: *Bags groceries swiftly, but carefully*

Customer: “Be careful bagging my groceries. You’re bagging them way too fast.”

Me: “I’m sorry; I’m just trying to move a bit faster than normal so you and everyone else in line can check out in a timely manner.”

Customer: *Pays, takes groceries, doesn’t look or say a word to me as I thank her and wish her a good day*

Me: *Greets next customer and starts bagging the next order, which is a very large order.*

I glance over my shoulder and notice the previous customer digging through her grocery bags and inspecting her groceries. After a minute, she comes back over to me.

Customer: “Excuse me! What is your name?”

Me: *Turns around* “Is there a problem?”

Customer: “Yes, there is.” *Points to the groceries* “Some of my yogurts are upside down. This is not what I wanted! This is unacceptable!”

Me: “I’m sorry about that. I’ll re-bag your groceries if you’d like.”

Customer: “No! You’ve done enough! What’s your name again?” *Struggles to read my name tag, but after a few seconds reads my name aloud*

Me: “Are you sure you don’t want me re-bag your gro-”

Customer: “No! I will remember your name!” *Turns around and storms off*
