Overheard while I has having breakfast at a popular restaurant with waits up to 2 hours on Sunday mornings.

Server: Here you go. (Gesturing to table)

Woman 1: Aren’t there any booths available?

Server: If you’d like wait for a booth, I can take you back to the front.

Woman 2: We’ve been waiting for over an hour.

Server: I’m sorry, there’s nothing that shows you requested a booth. If you’d like to wait…

Woman 1: I can’t believe there aren’t any booths available. (Sitting down with a huff and a roll of her eyes)

Yes, because the restaurant is holding booths open just in case someone who didn’t request one when checking in wants one instead of turning their tables as quickly as possible to get through the wait.
