Unfiltered Story #159087

(I am a cashier at the facility and pay people for their material through a window. I am female, with pale skin.)

Lady: “It’s so nice to see women working here now!”

Me: “Well, there are six of us here.” (I’m pretty confused by this comment since some of my female coworkers have been there for six years or more, but assume it’s because of the industrial setting.)

Lady: “Oh really! Now don’t take this the wrong way, but it’s also good to see white people working here.” (Naturally, I take it the wrong way despite her stupid little disclaimer. I love all my coworkers because they are awesome, and I hate racism in any form. I give her a very flat stare, friendly smile long gone.)

Me: “Well, I don’t know how white I am ma’am, since I’m part Cherokee.”
(For some reason her eyes bugged out and she started trying to backpedal. Go figure.)
